In recent years Russian timber has been used in large quantities, sold well with a higher price on Shandong market. For example,  the price for more than 4 meter length and 35 cm diameter high quality Scotch Pine log per cubic meter is around Yuan 1000 and the price for 6 meter length Scotch Pine log per cubic meter has exceeded Yuan 1000. The higher quality and higher price, the quicker Russian timber is sold, especially in the coastal or developed regions such as Qingdao, Jinan and Yantai City. The local experts think that the main reasons for Russian timber sold well are as follows:

First, Shandong Province is one of more developed provinces in China’s northern areas. Many factors drive the demand for timber such as higher industrial and agricultural production level, important capital construction, rapid process of urbanization and the development of real estate industry, some booming facilities construction projects close related to people’s living level such as restaurant, hotel, office building and sports arena.

Secondly, the production of domestic North East timber resources such as Korean Pine, White Pine and Larch which occupied Shandong timber market in the past was reduced dramatically due to the implementation of Natural Forest Protection Program resulting in large gap between supply and demand on Shandong timber market. Russian timber similar to North East timber but its quality is higher than North East timber’s with a reasonable price occupies the province’s timber market quickly.

Finally, many convenient conditions (such as neighboring to sea, many ports in the coastal regions, developed railway, road straight through inland and extensive timber distributing center) contribute to favorable sales of Russian timber.

Local experts think that Russian timber continued to be sold well and drive the further development of the province’s timber processing industry viewed from the trend of Russian timber sold well on Shandong Province’s timber market.
