The Overall Development Goal Of China¡¯s Forestry By 2010

The national forestry meeting held in Beijing on 21 February 2006, Jia Zhibang, Administrator of the State Forestry Administration, announced the overall development goal of China¡¯s forestry by 2010. These main goals are as below:

China will strive to increase its forest cover to 20 percent, forest stocking volume to 13.2 billion cubic meters, the total forestry output value to 1 200 billion yuan ($149.1 billion). 110 million mu of sandy land will be controlled. Half of natural wetlands and 90 percent of the country's key wildlife species will be protected. The total area of natural protected regions will be 1.88 billion mu. There will be 2800 forest parks. The output of commercial timber will reach 99.8 million cubic meters. 70% of timber will be from the plantations. The integrated utilization percentage of timber will be 70%. The stocking volume of forest stand per unit area will reach 93 cubic meters per hectare.
